HONORING OUR FALLEN:
2020 MEMORIAL REMEMBRANCE

Since 2003, Californians have gathered annually to honor firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty at the California Firefighters Memorial Ceremony. In 2020, 32 men and women were to have been honored at ceremony. Sadly, that proud tradition — like so much else — fell victim to the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic last year.

In remembrance of their sacrifice, the Foundation created the 2020 California Firefighters Memorial Tribute video in lieu of the in-person ceremony. As part of tribute, the names of these 32 fallen California firefighters were engraved on the California Firefighters Memorial Wall at California State Capitol Park, Sacramento.

The 2021 Memorial Ceremony is currently scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2021. The families of the 2020 will be invited as full participants in the 2021 Memorial Ceremony, receiving full honors along with those being recognized in 2021.

“It is our hope that the families and colleagues of all 32 fallen heroes from 2020 will come and be honored at the 2021 Memorial Ceremony,” said California Fire Foundation Chair Brian Rice. “We pray that we can continue this solemn tradition and ensure we pay tribute to the men and women who pay the ultimate price to protect us.”
