1ST DISTRICT REPORT | DARRELL ROBERTS
CALIFORNIA PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS OF DISTRICT 1 have been extremely busy over the last several months, achieving significant victories at the ballot box. Many locals celebrated wins in both local elections and the passage of crucial ballot measures, securing much-needed funding and resources for their fire departments and their communities.
Escondido Firefighters, Local 3842, were successful in passing a much needed one-cent sales tax. Measure I will help to increase fire and paramedic services. Escondido firefighters led the charge and built strong coalitions to ensure a victory. Measure I will continue to provide funding for another 20 years.
San Marcos Firefighters, Local 4184, were successful in passing Measure Q, a one-cent sales tax that will help improve fire staffing and response times. The measure will build a much needed fifth fire station and add additional firefighters.
Riverside City Firefighters, Local 1067, President Mike Detoy was recently appointed by Governor Newsom to the California Public Employees’ Retirement System Board of Administration. President Detoy, who also serves on the Hermosa Beach City Council, will help provide oversight to the CalPERS retirement system as the local government elected official representative.
