7TH DISTRICT REPORT | DAVE GILLOTTE

HISTORIC UNION GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

This month, Local 1014 held an on-the-road General Membership Meeting in Diamond Bar. This meeting was historic for Local 1014 since it was the first time the Fire Chief attended a Union General Membership Meeting to answer questions directly. We want to thank Chief Anthony Marrone for joining us and answering critical questions about staffing, promotions, and recruiting. Our partnership between labor and management continues to grow as we fight for what is best for all and the future of our Department.

Additionally, we had presentations from our Local 1014 Health Trust regarding Open Enrollment and increases and improvements to our benefits for 2024 including dental, orthodontia, fertility, and vision from our self-funded healthcare plan that is “for firefighters, by firefighters.” We also had our political and communications consultant Poloma Public Affairs report on current political action items in the County and State.

POLITICAL ACTION UPDATE – MEASURE F

On the political action front, Local 1014 began moving forward on signature gathering for our ballot initiative in the Los Angeles County Fire Protection District which includes over 130 unincorporated communities and 60 contract cities. We have not had a readjustment to the formula for our revenue streams in over 25 years. This is a heavy lift for our union but it will secure more funding for our Department including staffing, infrastructure, apparatus and equipment not only for our next contract cycle but will also correct the formula for funding future generations of firefighters.

This is our number one priority as we work to secure permanent solutions that will ensure our members continue to have the resources they need as our County population and our call volumes and intensity increase.
