Making Honoring Firefighters a Family Tradition

Adan Romo is the sculptor, teacher, and artist at the helm of the design for the California Firefighters Memorial expansion. His late father, retired Sacramento firefighter Jesus Romo, was the artist who created the awe-inspiring Fallen Brother sculpture. Adan was not only present during the construction of the current memorial wall but also helped move Fallen Brother into place, standing side-by-side with firefighters as it was lifted from the moving truck to its current place in front of the limestone wall.

Adan recalls the camaraderie of the fire department alive and well in his home and life throughout his early years, so being part of the expansion felt like something he had been preparing for his whole life. The ideas flowed from pen to paper to not just expand the Memorial Wall but to create a space for families, firefighters, and the public to feel welcome and to tell the rich history of the fire service. The California Fire Foundation felt that Adan would be the right artist to ensure this living memorial was expanded in the most thoughtful way that would honor our fallen brothers and sisters for generations to come. We are looking forward to sharing updates with you and if you are interested in donating to this worthy expansion, please visit www.cafirefoundation.org/expansion.
