In a display of solidarity and accomplishment, the 50th Biennial CPF Convention embraced the theme "Rise to the Challenge," bringing together hundreds of delegates from 123 local affiliates to collectively map out a bold vision for the future of CPF.
The inaugural Brian Hatch Advocacy Achievement Award, which recognizes an individual member or a CPF-affiliated local for outstanding advocacy in policy and politics, was awarded to Santa Maria Firefighters, Local 2020. Their efforts in building a public campaign to hold elected officials accountable showcase the true power of collective voice.
The Dallas Jones Award for Achievement in Political Excellence was given to San Francisco Firefighters, Local 798, in recognition of their local and state legislative efforts aimed at reducing occupational cancer in the fire service.
In addition to honoring these local achievements, delegates voted on over two dozen resolutions. These included a resolution to pursue legislation to update the workers’ compensation system and legislation supporting health and safety for women in the fire service, installing Brian K. Rice as CPF President Emeritus, and more.
Delegates also elected new officers, including the newly appointed CPF President, Darrell Roberts. In his election speech, President Roberts emphasized the importance of continuing the fight to protect wages, benefits, and working conditions, alongside brothers and sisters in the labor movement as a whole.
